Buildroot

Buildroot solves a similar problem to the Yocto Project -- generating a complete, custom, minimal embedded Linux system (kernel, bootloader, root filesystem, and chosen packages) from source for a specific target device -- but with a deliberately simpler Makefile-and-Kconfig-based configuration system that's faster to learn and quicker to build with, at the cost of some of the more advanced package-management and multi-project infrastructure Yocto offers for very large, complex products. It's a common choice specifically for smaller embedded projects, hobbyist boards, and situations where Yocto's steeper learning curve and longer build times aren't worth the extra capability it provides. Both projects remain actively maintained and widely used, with the choice between them typically coming down to project scale and complexity.
