Debian Edu (its original name, Skolelinux, is Norwegian for 'school Linux') isn't just a desktop with educational apps installed -- it's a complete, pre-configured school network solution, with a main server handling centralized user accounts, file shares, and network boot for client machines, designed so a school with limited IT staff can deploy dozens of classroom computers from one coherent setup. It bundles a curated library of educational software (GCompris, various subject-specific tools) directly integrated with that network infrastructure. As an official Debian 'Pure Blend', it stays tightly aligned with mainline Debian releases rather than existing as a separate fork, inheriting Debian's stability and security-update process directly.
