Zentyal Server (developed in Spain, formerly known as eBox Platform) packages an Ubuntu base with a Samba-based implementation of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file sharing, mail, and groupware behind one web-based admin console -- specifically targeting small and medium businesses that would otherwise default to Windows Server for domain services. Its Active Directory compatibility means Windows clients can join a Zentyal domain, apply group policies, and authenticate exactly as they would against a real Windows Server, without licensing costs. A free Community Edition covers the core services, while a paid Zentyal Server Edition adds commercial support and additional modules for larger deployments.
