MacOS 10.14, which introduced system-wide Dark Mode and Dynamic Desktop wallpapers — still a common target for 2012-era Macs whose graphics hardware doesn't meet Catalina's Metal requirement.

MacBook (2015 or later), MacBook Air (2012 or later), MacBook Pro (2012 or later), Mac mini (2012 or later), iMac (2012 or later, Metal-capable), Mac Pro (2013 or later, or 2010-2012 with a Metal-capable GPU).

Mojave is a genuine practical ceiling for a real slice of still-functioning hardware: several 2012-era iMacs and Mac Pros have graphics hardware that doesn't meet the Metal-API requirement Catalina introduced, making Mojave the newest MacOS those specific machines can actually run. It was also the first version with system-wide Dark Mode. Its Mac App Store listing remains a real, currently working official download.
