HexDroid IRC

HexDroid IRC is an open-source IRC client for Android in the Communication category. It lets users connect to IRC networks, chat with friends and communities, and manage conversations from a mobile Material Design interface. The client is intended for people who use IRC across multiple networks and want mobile access to persistent sessions.

It supports always-connected sessions, automatic reconnection, multiple network profiles with independent settings, and automatic connection or channel joining. Users can also configure post-connect commands and connect through ZNC or soju bouncers. Security features include TLS with Trust On First Use pinning, SASL authentication using PLAIN, EXTERNAL, or SCRAM-SHA-256, and credential encryption through the Android Keystore. Secure Chat provides AES-256-GCM end-to-end encryption with Authenticated Group Exchange, while FiSH is available for backwards compatibility, and Tor and SOCKS proxy connections are supported.

The chat interface provides mention notifications with quick reply, swipe-to-reply, inline quote previews, and selected IRCv3 features such as typing indicators, chat history, reactions, read markers, and account tags. It also includes command and nickname autocomplete, colour-coded nicknames, mIRC and ANSI formatting, inline media previews, search, jump-to-unread controls, operator tools, ignore lists, and notification muting. File transfer support covers DCC file transfers, DCC Chat, passive and reverse DCC, Secure DCC through SSEND or SCHAT, RESUME, and IPv6.

HexDroid IRC can be adjusted with multiple languages, .hex scripting, per-network character encoding, custom nickname colours, and drag-and-drop network ordering. Settings can be backed up and restored as JSON, and on-device chat logging is optional. The application has no ads, analytics, or tracking, and messages and credentials are sent only to the IRC servers selected by the user. MirrorNest distributes the official Android build directly from its own storage after scanning it for malware before publication, while the software itself is licensed under GPLv3; IRCv3 functions depend on server support, and background connectivity can vary with Android battery settings.
