Vocalis is an open-source audio application for Linux that provides a simple interface for recording and playing audio. It is intended for users who need a straightforward way to capture sound and review recordings without a complex workflow. Formerly known as GNOME Sound Recorder, it focuses on recording, playback, basic editing, and voice memos.
The application supports creating voice memos as well as recording other audio. Its playback functions let users listen to recordings from within the same application. Basic editing tools allow recordings to be adjusted without requiring a separate audio program. Vocalis automatically manages the saving process, helping prevent a previous recording from being accidentally discarded. Supported formats include Ogg Vorbis, Opus, FLAC, MP3, and MOV.
As a Linux application, Vocalis fits the audio category in MirrorNest’s catalog and is distributed under an open-source license. MirrorNest mirrors the official Vocalis build directly on its own storage rather than presenting an unrelated repackaged version. The mirrored build is scanned for malware before publication, giving users a distribution source that is tied to the official build.
