ROSA Linux picked up development after Mandriva Linux, an influential French distribution with roots reaching back to the 1990s, folded, carrying forward some of that lineage's RPM-based, YaST-like configuration heritage while evolving independently since. It's developed by the Russian company NTC IT ROSA and ships in three editions -- a community-oriented ROSA Desktop Fresh, plus commercially supported ROSA Enterprise Desktop and ROSA Enterprise Linux Server editions aimed at business customers -- with support for KDE Plasma, GNOME, LXQt, and Xfce desktops. It bundles closed-source components some users may want to be aware of (proprietary codecs and drivers) more readily than a strictly free-software-focused distribution would.
