Arduino IDE

Arduino IDE is an open-source software package for Linux. MirrorNest lists it in the System Tools category. It provides the IDE environment used to configure communication between a Linux computer and an Arduino board.

The package runs inside a sandbox intended to improve security and stability. Within that sandbox, plugins can use Python 3 and the serial library. Additional Python 3 libraries can be installed there with the arduino.pip command. Python 2 is not supported by this package.

Linux users who upload over USB must add their user account to the dialout group. The computer must then be restarted for this setup to take effect. Some boards, including the Uno WiFi Rev2 and ATMEGA328, require additional USB permissions. These requirements apply to configuring Linux for communication between the IDE and an Arduino board.
