Rescatux, from the team behind the well-known Super Grub2 Disk boot-recovery tool, takes a different approach from most rescue distributions on this list: rather than presenting a toolbox of separate utilities and expecting the user to know which one to reach for, its Rescapp wizard walks a user through a specific problem (a broken bootloader, a forgotten Windows or Linux password, a corrupted filesystem) with plain-language, step-by-step guidance. It can repair both Linux and Windows boot issues from the same live environment, making it a useful single tool to keep on hand regardless of which OS ends up needing rescue.
