Windows 11 SE is Microsoft's direct response to Chromebooks dominating the low-cost school-laptop market: it locks down the desktop to a single full-screen app at a time, restricts which apps can be installed (mostly Microsoft 365 and web apps, managed centrally by school IT through Intune for Education), and is tuned to run acceptably on very inexpensive hardware with as little as 4GB of RAM. It's never sold as a standalone OS or upgrade -- it only ships pre-installed on specific low-cost OEM devices built for the education market, and isn't intended for general consumer or business use.
