4MLinux is built entirely from scratch rather than basing itself on an existing distribution, and organizes its default toolset around four themed capabilities the project's name references: system maintenance and rescue tools, multimedia playback/editing, small server functions (miniserver), and a curated set of open-source games. It ships as a single, compact live ISO that stays usable for anything from a hard-drive rescue session to a lightweight everyday desktop on older hardware. Its release cadence and long-term single-developer-driven maintenance have kept it a persistent, if lower-profile, entry in the lightweight-distribution space for well over a decade.
