GNOME

Aeon (previously known during development as 'openSUSE MicroOS Desktop: GNOME' before being given its own identity) packages the same immutable, transactionally-updated MicroOS base into a specifically desktop-tuned, GNOME-based experience, filling the same niche for openSUSE that Silverblue fills for Fedora. Applications are expected to come from Flatpak rather than native rpm packages, keeping the underlying immutable base untouched by day-to-day software installs. A KDE Plasma sibling project (openSUSE Kalpa) follows the same architecture for users who prefer Plasma over GNOME.
