Peppermint OS made its name pairing a lightweight Xfce/LXDE-derived desktop with 'Ice', an in-house tool for turning any website or web app into what looks and behaves like a native desktop application (a site-specific browser). After years built on Lubuntu, the project rebased directly onto Debian Stable, trading some of Ubuntu's newer package availability for Debian's longer-term stability and independence from Canonical. It remains aimed at users who want a snappy, low-overhead system without giving up easy access to modern web-based tools.
