iBeacon Tasker Plugin

iBeacon Tasker Plugin is an open-source Android app for scanning nearby Bluetooth LE iBeacon advertisements. It returns beacon information to Tasker or another Locale-compatible automation host, allowing automation tasks to use details from detected beacons. It is intended for Android users who need beacon scanning as part of device-based automation rather than as a standalone tracking service.

A scan can match any iBeacon or apply filters for UUID, major value, minor value, and minimum RSSI. Matching results are exposed as local variables for the automation task. Tasker or another Locale-compatible host is required for this integration.

The app provides a simple launcher screen for granting permissions and testing scans without Tasker. Tasker scans run when requested, while an optional compatibility monitor can be enabled on devices where background scanning is unreliable. The monitor requests notification permission so Android 13 and later can display its silent foreground-service notification. Background location permission is requested because Android treats Bluetooth LE scan results as location-capable, including scans triggered after the app is no longer visible.
