Silence

Silence is an open-source Android application in the Communication category. It is designed to control which incoming calls are accepted by applying configurable allow and block rules to phone numbers. By default, numbers that are not saved in your contacts are blocked.

Rules can allow numbers you have contacted, numbers in selected groups, or numbers found in messages. You can also allow a number after a specified count of calls within a set number of minutes, or allow numbers that match regular expression patterns. On Android 12 and later, rules can distinguish between SIM 1 and SIM 2. Blocking rules can target regular expression matches, including numbers that are in your contacts, and can also be assigned to SIM 1 or SIM 2 on Android 12 and later.

Silence uses Android call-screening access to decide whether to block or allow a call. Depending on the rules, it may use call history, SMS, incoming messages, notifications, contacts, and phone-state information to evaluate a number. These permissions support checks such as whether you called or answered a number, how often it called within a period, whether messages were exchanged, whether a number appears in a message or notification, whether it is saved in contacts, and which SIM is receiving the call. Permission to receive boot completion lets the app keep its cleanup of expired numbers working across reboots.

On Android 10, if calls from contacts are rejected, Contacts permission may need to be enabled manually through App info, then Permissions. Silence is Free Open Source Software released under the GPL-3 license.
