1Create separate directories
Audiobookshelf requires config, metadata, audiobooks, and podcasts to each be their own directory — never nested inside one another.
2Write a compose.yaml

Keep /config on local disk — network shares (NAS/CIFS/NFS) can corrupt its SQLite database over time.
3Start the server
docker compose up -d
4Finish setup in the browser
The web UI walks you through creating the root admin account on first launch.
