CastLab

CastLab is an open-source Android application in the Cast category. It sends photos, videos, and audio from an Android device to DLNA/UPnP and FCast receivers on the local network. It is intended for users who want to play personal media or supported online content through a compatible casting device.

Media can be selected from the gallery, the Android file picker, or online sources. CastLab discovers available receivers automatically through SSDP and mDNS. It can also share the Android screen in real time. Its media browser organizes content by albums and provides filters for date range and media type.

Users can create and manage playlists, while the player includes play, pause, stop, seeking, volume, and autoplay controls. Background playback continues with notification controls for play, pause, and stop. CastLab can extract videos from web pages through HTML parsing. It also supports casting from PeerTube and YouTube through Invidious instances, without a direct connection to YouTube, and can import M3U and M3U8 playlists for IPTV and online streams.

The interface uses Material Design 3 and offers Light, Dark, Auto, and Custom themes with eight presets. As an Android application, CastLab is designed around Android media selection, notifications, and screen-sharing capabilities. MirrorNest mirrors the official CastLab build directly on its own storage and scans it for malware before publishing.
