Obtainium

A power-user tool that tracks apps published directly on GitHub Releases (and several other sources) and notifies you of, or auto-installs, updates — solving the update problem for apps not published on F-Droid or Play.

  1. 1Install Obtainium

    Obtainium is itself distributed via GitHub Releases and F-Droid's IzzyOnDroid repository -- both real, verifiable sources.

  2. 2Add an app by its source URL

    Paste a GitHub repo URL (or a supported source like GitLab, F-Droid, or a direct APK URL) and Obtainium detects the latest release and its correct APK asset automatically.

    e.g. https://github.com/owner/repo

  3. 3Enable automatic update checks

    Obtainium can periodically check every tracked app for new releases and notify you (or auto-install, if you grant it install permission) -- effectively a personal, source-agnostic app store for anything on GitHub Releases.

    Because Obtainium installs real APKs straight from each project's own release page, it carries the same trust model as manually downloading and sideloading -- only add sources you actually trust.
