MX Linux consistently ranks among the most-downloaded distributions on DistroWatch, built on Debian Stable rather than Ubuntu and defaulting to the lightweight Xfce desktop for good performance on modest hardware. Its standout feature is the MX Tools suite -- a collection of original graphical utilities for tasks like rebuilding the initial ramdisk, managing snapshots, tweaking boot options, and fixing broken package installs -- built by the antiX and former MEPIS communities that founded the project. It also ships an 'AHS' (Advanced Hardware Support) variant with a newer kernel and graphics stack for newer hardware while keeping the rest of the system on Debian Stable's conservative package base.
