WordPress

WordPress is the world's most widely used self-hosted CMS, installed via its long-standing 'Famous Five-Minute Install': download the package, point it at a database, and finish setup through a browser wizard.

  1. 1Download and extract WordPress

    wget https://wordpress.org/latest.tar.gz

  2. 2Create a database and user

    Create a dedicated MySQL/MariaDB database and user with full privileges on it, and note the hostname (usually localhost).

  3. 3Configure wp-config.php

    Rename wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php and fill in DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD and DB_HOST, plus unique authentication keys.

  4. 4Upload files to the web server

    Copy the wordpress directory's contents to your domain root (or a subdirectory) via FTP or shell access.

  5. 5Run the install script

    Visit the install script in a browser and fill in the site title and admin credentials to finish setup.
