Aegis Authenticator

Aegis Authenticator is an open-source Android application for storing and managing authentication tokens. It is intended for users who need a protected collection of tokens for their accounts and services. MirrorNest lists it in the Security & Privacy category as an Android download.

The token collection is held in a vault that can be secured with a password and strong cryptography. On Android devices with a supported fingerprint or face sensor, users can also unlock the vault with biometrics. These protections secure the stored collection and do not change which authentication methods the connected services support.

Aegis provides organizational tools for collections with many entries, including custom icons, searches by account or service name, and custom groups. It can create automatic backups in a location chosen by the user, including cloud locations made available through Android’s Storage Access Framework, such as Nextcloud. Users can also make manual vault exports, and entries can be imported from 2FAS Authenticator, Authenticator Plus, Authy, andOTP, FreeOTP, FreeOTP+, and Google Authenticator.

MirrorNest mirrors the official Aegis Authenticator build directly on its own storage and scans the build for malware before publishing it. This provides another catalog location from which users can obtain the Android build while preserving its open-source license and platform classification. The MirrorNest distribution arrangement concerns how the build is obtained, not the token types or Android platform supported by the application.
