Mutt

Mutt is open-source productivity software for Linux focused on text-oriented email handling. It is intended for users who prefer a configurable, keyboard-based way to work with messages. Its mail features include MIME support, RFC 1522 encoding and decoding for 8-bit message headers, and UTF-8 support.

For mail connections, Mutt supports IMAP with SSL encryption and SASL authentication, as well as POP3 and ESMTP. It supports PGP/MIME under RFC 2015 for messages that use that format. Messages can be organized with strict or non-strict threading, postponed indefinitely, and displayed with colour support.

Mutt allows users to change keybindings and configure the application through an rc file. Its configuration options include support for compressed mailboxes and an optional sidebar. The program works with MMDF, MH, Maildir, and regular mbox mailbox formats, and example keybinding arrangements modeled on ELM, Mush, and PINE are available.
