Voxel Paint

Voxel Paint is an open-source Linux application in the Graphics & Design category for placing, removing, and arranging textured nodes in a three-dimensional workspace. It is suited to users who want to work with voxel-style blocks through direct mouse and keyboard controls. The application locks the mouse to its window during interaction, and pressing Escape releases it.

Users can move relative to the X and Y axes with W, A, S, and D, while Space and Left Shift control movement along the Z axis. Left Click or Right Shift places a node, Right Click or Right Control deletes one, and Q or Middle Click copies the texture from the node under the pointer. The R key places a node at the current position, and the E, F, or Mouse4 controls toggle fast movement. Movement speed can be changed with keys 1 through 7, while T resets the player state, G toggles gravity, and P toggles pitch locking.

Voxel Paint supports multi-selection by dragging with the middle mouse button, Mouse4, or Q, and the V, B, and N keys copy, recolor, or delete the selected nodes. The X and C keys, or Slash and Quote, change the texture of the pointed node, and the arrow keys move the view. F3 saves the current work, while F8 loads the saved state and removes changes made since that save. The application automatically saves on exit and also saves after more than three minutes of inactivity.

The included 17-block tileset can be customized by editing the tiles.ppm file in the dataPath directory and saving it as a PPM with a P6 272 16 255 header. Krita and KolourPaint are identified as applications that can edit this file.
