HomeBot

HomeBot is an open-source utility for Android devices. It lets a user configure what happens when the device’s home button is pressed and held. The tool is suited to users who want that gesture to provide a direct shortcut to a selected action.

A long press can be set to open an installed app. It can also open a web page, toggle the device’s flashlight, or show the recent apps screen. Another available action changes the device’s brightness. These options make the home-button gesture a configurable entry point for several supported functions.

HomeBot does not require root access. To use it, the user must select HomeBot as the Assistant app in Android’s Settings under Apps, Advanced, Default apps, and Assist & voice input. This setting controls how Android sends the home-button long-press action to HomeBot.
