T2 SDE (System Development Environment) forked from the earlier ROCK Linux project in 2004 and describes itself accurately as a build kit rather than a distribution in the usual sense: it provides the scaffolding and package-build scripts to compile a complete, custom Linux system tuned for particular hardware, architectures, or performance goals, rather than shipping one fixed set of choices for everyone. It supports building for an unusually wide range of CPU architectures compared to most mainstream distributions, reflecting its role as infrastructure for specialized or embedded use cases as much as a general-purpose desktop or server OS. It occupies a similar 'build your own from a from-scratch toolkit' niche to Linux From Scratch, but with more automation and tooling around the process.
