OsmAnd — Maps & GPS Offline

OsmAnd — Maps & GPS Offline is an Android application for offline maps, route planning, and GPS navigation based on OpenStreetMap data. It is intended for people who need to find places, plan travel, or follow routes when an internet connection is unavailable. The app supports route decisions based on preferred roads, vehicle dimensions, and route inclines.

Its map view can show selected types of places, including attractions, food, and health services, and supports searches by address, name, coordinates, or category. Different map styles cover uses such as touring, nautical travel, winter and skiing, topographic viewing, desert travel, and off-road navigation. Relief shading, optional contour-line plug-ins, and overlays from different map sources provide additional ways to inspect map information. A compass, radius ruler, night theme, Wikipedia integration, and Mapillary interface are also included.

GPS navigation can plot routes offline and offers configurable profiles for cars, motorcycles, bicycles, four-wheel-drive vehicles, pedestrians, boats, public transport, and other uses. Users can adjust routes by excluding roads or road surfaces and can display widgets for distance, speed, remaining travel time, and distance to the next turn. Routes can be built point by point, recorded as GPX tracks, viewed or imported on the map, followed for navigation, and examined for distances and ascents or descents.

The app supports favourites, markers, and audio or video notes, along with editing OpenStreetMap and updating maps as frequently as once per hour. GPX tracks can also be shared in OpenStreetMap, and the project provides documentation, support, and a worldwide user community. OsmAnd is open source and states that it does not collect user data, while letting users decide what data the app can access.
