ps-printer-app

ps-printer-app is an open-source printer driver package for PostScript printers on Linux. It is intended for people who need to use a PostScript printer from a Linux computer. The software provides a way to set up physical printers that may not otherwise be available through a driverless printing environment. It belongs to the productivity category because its main purpose is enabling document and other print jobs.

The application is installed as a Snap package. After installation, the user opens its local web interface and selects Add Printer to begin configuration. If a specific model is not explicitly supported, the user can provide its PPD file, which is a PostScript Printer Description file supplied with some printer drivers, or use generic PostScript support. For each configured physical printer, the application emulates a driverless IPP network printer using IPP Everywhere, allowing the computer's printing environment to discover it and make it available for printing. The same local web interface is used for printer administration and configuration, including the setup of printers and their available options.

As a Linux productivity tool, ps-printer-app fits systems that support Snap installation and use the Printer Application model for managing printers.
