Kubuntu is one of Ubuntu's oldest official flavors, swapping the default GNOME desktop for KDE Plasma while keeping everything else -- the .deb package base, Ubuntu's release schedule and LTS support windows, and its hardware-enablement stacks -- identical to regular Ubuntu. Plasma offers far more visual and behavioral customization out of the box than GNOME does, appealing to users who want a Windows-like taskbar-and-start-menu layout without leaving the Ubuntu ecosystem. Because it shares Ubuntu's repositories, virtually every piece of Ubuntu documentation and troubleshooting advice applies directly to Kubuntu as well.
