SliTaz builds its own packages from scratch rather than basing itself on Debian, Ubuntu, or Fedora, keeping the whole system -- kernel, core utilities, and a lightweight desktop -- compact enough to run comfortably on machines with very little RAM or storage. Its own Tazpkg package manager and small, French-led development community give it a distinct identity from the more common Debian-derivative lightweight distros. It's positioned similarly to Tiny Core and Puppy Linux in the 'extremely small, boots from almost anything' niche, though with a smaller and lower-profile community than either.
MirrorNest doesn't mirror distro ISOs — installation media should always come straight from the project's own official download page (linked above), so you get the correct checksum/signature to verify against.
