Ubuntu Studio ships a real-time-patched, low-latency kernel configuration by default -- important specifically for audio production, where even small timing delays cause audible glitches during recording or live processing -- alongside a curated application set spanning digital audio workstations (Ardour), video editing (Kdenlive), 2D/3D graphics (GIMP, Blender, Inkscape), and desktop publishing tools. As an official Ubuntu flavor it shares Ubuntu's package base and LTS support cycle, and it defaults to KDE Plasma after switching from Xfce in earlier releases, chosen for its lower resource overhead relative to GNOME on creative workloads that are often already CPU/GPU intensive.
