  1. 1Download the latest release

  2. 2Extract and run

    tar xvfz prometheus-*.tar.gz
    cd prometheus-*/
    ./prometheus --config.file=prometheus.yml

    For a permanent setup, run this as a systemd service rather than in a foreground terminal — the official docs' "Running as a service" section covers the unit file.

  3. 3Open the UI

    http://your-server-ip:9090 — this is also the endpoint Grafana points at as a data source.
