Apple Silicon (M-series) Macs only — the first macOS release to drop Intel Mac support entirely, and the last to include full Rosetta 2 translation for Intel-only apps.
MacOS 27 Golden Gate marks a real turning point for the Mac platform: it's the first version of MacOS that will not install on any Intel-based Mac at all, running only on Apple Silicon (M-series chip) hardware, and Apple has said it will be the last version to include full Rosetta 2 translation for apps that still haven't been rebuilt for Apple Silicon. Its headline feature is a rebuilt Siri with real conversation history and deeper Apple Intelligence integration, alongside continued refinement of the Liquid Glass interface design introduced the previous year, including a user-adjustable transparency control. Anyone still on an Intel Mac will top out on MacOS Tahoe (26) and should plan hardware replacement rather than expecting a future OS upgrade path.
Release dates, support windows, and system requirements come from Microsoft's and Apple's own published lifecycle pages (linked above) — always confirm there before relying on this for a production/enterprise deployment decision, since support policies occasionally change.
