Catalina is a real dividing line for older software compatibility: it's the last MacOS release that could run 32-bit-only applications at all, which makes it a deliberate choice for people keeping specific old professional software (older audio plugins, older CAD/engineering tools) alive on genuinely still-used older Intel hardware, rather than something to upgrade past. Its Mac App Store listing remains a real, currently working official download.
