Windows Server 2012
Out of support since October 2023 — still running in production on a meaningful number of older enterprise servers, with paid Extended Security Updates covering it only through October 2026.
Platform
Windows
Released
September 2012
Support ends
October 10, 2023 (Extended Security Updates available through October 13, 2026)
System requirements
1.4 GHz 64-bit CPU, 512MB RAM, 32GB storage minimum.
Windows Server 2012 introduced Storage Spaces and a significantly reworked Hyper-V over Server 2008 R2, and remained a common enterprise deployment target for years. Its regular support ended October 10, 2023, and the paid Extended Security Updates program covering it runs out entirely on October 13, 2026, with no further extension available after that -- organizations still running it are on a firm, final deadline to migrate rather than an option to keep paying indefinitely.
Release dates, support windows, and system requirements come from Microsoft's and Apple's own published lifecycle pages (linked above) — always confirm there before relying on this for a production/enterprise deployment decision, since support policies occasionally change.
