About

AudioLex plays spoken words and asks you to identify and repeat them, rebuilding recognition when hearing sound and understanding speech no longer align. It is aimed especially at practice after one-sided hearing loss, where a hearing aid can make speech louder without making it clearer.

Learning mode shows a word while it is spoken, while Exam mode keeps the text hidden and schedules it again according to your self-rating—after a minute, ten minutes, a day, a week, or a month. The built-in material contains 92 words and sentences: 72 German items, including 68 made with free speech synthesis and four recorded by real voices, plus 20 English items; the training language is separate from the German-or-English interface setting. You can add transcribed recordings, keep several speakers separate, and enable or disable each voice for familiar- or unfamiliar-speaker exercises.

Speech can be combined with adjustable background noise, using one-tap levels for Easy without noise, Hard with a clear speech advantage, or Advanced with noise louder than speech; the included noise was recorded inside a bus, and your own noise can be recorded or imported as WAV. Headphone practice supports the left, right, or both channels, while the app identifies a Bluetooth hearing aid that sums stereo to mono and marks channel selection ineffective. Requested backups put your recordings, noises, and session history into a ZIP file in your documents.

This open-source Android education app works fully offline, requests no internet permission, and has no account, trackers, or ads, so vocabulary, ratings, and history remain on the device. It supports Android 10 and newer on arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, and x86 architectures. Version 0.37.1 additionally presents the existing audio-and-text exercise as spelling practice, while the app itself is otherwise unchanged; its deliberately plain interface includes a short guide and a start-screen switch for German or English, and it is a practice aid rather than a medical product, replacing neither audiologist advice nor an ENT examination.

What's new in v0.37.1

The store description now mentions another use: because learning mode lets you hear a word and read it at the same time, it also works for spelling practice.

Nothing changes in the app itself.
