Cloudbase Predictor1.8.1

Choose a flying site and Cloudbase Predictor converts atmospheric forecasts into practical soaring and free-flight guidance for paragliding, hang-gliding, and sailplane pilots. It displays thermal strength, estimated thermal tops, cloudbase, wind speed and direction by pressure level, and cloud cover at low, middle, and high altitudes. Stüve diagrams plot temperature and dew-point profiles so pilots can inspect the underlying atmospheric structure before deciding where and when to fly.

An interactive OpenStreetMap-based map lets users select any location, while nearby ParaglidingEarth launch sites can be browsed or disabled in Settings. Flying sites can be saved as favorites, opened instantly, and configured to appear when the app starts. Dark mode with Material 3 styling improves chart and map use in the field.

Cloudbase Predictor 1.8.1 is open-source software for Android, requiring Android 7.1 or newer on arm64-v8a devices. Open-Meteo supplies the forecast profiles, while map choices include OpenFreeMap, OpenTopoMap, NASA GIBS true-colour imagery, and Esri World Imagery, with data from OpenMapTiles, OpenStreetMap contributors, and SRTM. The app uses Kotlin Multiplatform and Compose Multiplatform for shared Android and web forecast interfaces, MapLibre for maps, Ktor and Kotlinx Serialization for forecast access, and Room for local forecast and place storage. ParaglidingEarth launch data is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0.
