DropDMG3.7.1

Drop folders or entire disks onto DropDMG to turn them into compressed Mac disk images or other archives, then use the resulting files for software distribution, transport, backup, or long-term storage. Its drag-and-drop workflow also converts existing .dmg files and archives, while Finder can access the contents of a disk image directly without an extraction step or third-party software. Disk images gather a complete folder or disk into one file, making them Apple’s preferred format for distributing Mac software.

DropDMG, a freeware Backup & Recovery utility for macOS, can be controlled programmatically through AppleScript or shell scripts as well as operated interactively. Developers can use it to prepare professional-looking images for app releases, while individuals and administrators can package collections of files or disks into archives for transport across the Internet, backup, or archival.

The current 3.7.1 version runs on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs and supports macOS 10.13 High Sierra through macOS 27 Golden Gate; older macOS versions have corresponding older releases. The 3.7.1 release was issued on November 11, 2025, and the developer offers a free trial for evaluating its image-creation and conversion workflow. Its combination of Finder-oriented handling and AppleScript or shell automation distinguishes it from archive utilities aimed only at occasional manual compression.
