About

Point your phone at the sky, garden, building plot, or another outdoor space to see projected sunlight directly in the live camera view. Heliodos overlays the sun’s arcs for the summer solstice, winter solstice, equinox, and current date and time, along with the moon’s current trajectory. Hour markers and time labels on the current sun and moon paths help connect each point in the overlay with a specific time of day. The display makes it easier to judge where sunlight will reach and how trees, buildings, or other obstacles may affect it.

Your GPS position can supply the observation location, or you can choose any place on Earth manually, and a time control lets you simulate the sun’s position instead of viewing only the present moment. Settings let you show or hide individual paths and assign each path its own colour. Pinching to zoom cycles among available back cameras, including wide-angle, standard, and telephoto lenses.

Gardeners can compare seasonal light before planting, while property owners can assess natural light on rooms and terraces. Architects and builders can use the projected sun data when planning shading, windows, or solar panels, and photographers can scout locations and anticipate golden-hour angles.

Heliodos is an open-source Education app for Android 11 or later, using Universal architecture and requiring camera and location permissions. Version 1.1.0 adds configurable path visibility and colours, moon support that is disabled by default, labelled hour ticks on current paths, and improved camera selection on some devices. The app collects and transmits no data.

Requires Android 11+ · Architecture: Universal
