KeePassX

KeePassX stores usernames, passwords, URLs, attachments, and comments in one organized database, giving users a single place to manage personal credentials. The database is locked with one master key, so access to the saved records is centered on one main credential rather than separate unprotected entries. Its entire database is encrypted with either AES, also known as Rijndael, or Twofish using a 256-bit key.

Entries can have user-defined titles and icons, while customizable groups help arrange different kinds of information. An integrated search can scan an individual group or the complete database, which is useful when many records are stored. The database format is compatible with KeePass Password Safe, allowing the same stored information to work with that application.

KeePassX is intended for people with high demands for secure personal-data management, including anyone handling numerous accounts or keeping related private records together. It has a light interface, runs on Windows, and is described by its developer, Jota Jota, as cross-platform. Originally called KeePass/L for Linux, it took the KeePassX name after becoming cross-platform; the current release includes the KeePassX 0.4.4 Security Update. The software is released under the GNU General Public License, so its openly developed code and use are governed by that license.
