About
Open, create, edit, and view Office files in Chrome with Microsoft Office Online for Chrome, using browser-based versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Sway Online. It lets people work with those files when the desktop Office suite is not installed on their computer. Published by Microsoft Corporation, this Windows Productivity extension is distributed as freeware.
Familiar formatting and layout controls support creating and revising documents, spreadsheets, presentations, notes, and Sway content in the browser. Copying and pasting is available through ribbon buttons, the right-click menu, and keyboard shortcuts. Integration with OneDrive and OneDrive for Business gives users access to their stored files from anywhere. It suits people who need to open existing Office files or create new content directly in Chrome, particularly on computers that do not have Office installed.
The package does not install the Office applications themselves. Instead, it places a registry key that Chrome recognizes and uses to request permission to enable the extension. Chrome then installs the latest extension version and manages its updates; the current release is 1.5.0.20170115.
