.NET 11.0 ASP.NET Core Runtime

It lets Windows machines run existing ASP.NET Core web and server applications by supplying the runtime they need after deployment. This is Microsoft’s official ASP.NET Core Runtime for .NET 11.0, intended for operating those applications rather than building them from scratch. Developers can also use it while working on ASP.NET Core application projects, making runtime availability relevant during development as well as deployment.

For hosting scenarios, Microsoft recommends the Hosting Bundle because it includes the .NET Runtime and IIS support. That combination is suited to applications hosted through IIS, where the ASP.NET Core runtime and web-server integration are handled together. The software is aimed at administrators deploying web applications and developers testing or operating ASP.NET Core projects, not at providing a general-purpose collection of development tools.

The current release is 11.0.0-rc.3 and targets x86 architecture. Its role is the run-app component in Microsoft’s .NET lineup, while the SDK serves the separate task of building applications. Released under an open-source license, it is governed by the applicable license terms and fits projects that need an ASP.NET Core execution environment.
