VLC media player2.2.4

VLC media player plays video and audio from local files, physical media, and supported streams on MacOS, giving users one place to open content from different sources. It can also take media from webcams and devices and handle streams that use various streaming protocols. That makes it useful for everyday viewing and listening when files, discs, and connected sources need to be played in the same application.

It supports most multimedia files, including formats associated with MPEG-2, DivX, H.264, MKV, WebM, WMV, and MP3. For physical media, it plays DVDs, Audio CDs, and VCDs. Its broad codec coverage generally lets users open supported material without adding separate codec packs. Video and audio playback are handled together rather than requiring separate programs for each type of media.

It suits people watching a DVD, listening to an Audio CD, opening assorted downloaded media files, viewing webcam content, or accessing a stream from a supported device. Felix Paul Kühne is the developer and publisher, and the current version is 3.0.24. VLC media player is open-source software in the Video & Media Players category, and it is described as having no spyware, advertising, or user tracking.
