wX

wX is an open-source Android application for viewing detailed weather information from the United States National Weather Service. It provides current forecasts, seven-day conditions, sounding data, and weather products for an unlimited number of United States locations. The application supports users who need more than local conditions, including people studying or interpreting forecast discussions, radar, outlooks, and other meteorological data.

Its information is organized across products from the Storm Prediction Center, Weather Prediction Center, National Hurricane Center, Ocean Prediction Center, and National Weather Service forecast offices. The app includes an optimized text viewer for products such as Area Forecast Discussions and Hazardous Weather Outlooks, along with weather models and animated visible, infrared, water vapor, and radar mosaics. It also provides an OpenGL-based NEXRAD radar interface with Level 2 and Level 3 data, base reflectivity and velocity views, and single-, dual-, and quad-pane displays.

The Android interface includes a customizable home screen, rearrangeable tiles on the SPC, MISC, and IMAGES tabs, and widgets for radar, radar mosaics, visible imagery, and forecast-office text products. Notifications can cover local alerts, Mesoscale Discussions, Mesoscale Precipitation Discussions, convective outlooks, watches, and tornado information affecting a location. The depth and use of common weather acronyms give the application a learning curve, while help is available from the main menu and from settings screens.

It currently supports locations in the United States and is not affiliated with NOAA or the National Weather Service.
