AnyBar0.2.3

AnyBar places a small colored dot in the macOS menu bar, giving you a compact visual signal for any condition you choose. You decide what the dot represents and when it changes, making it useful for build results, monitoring alerts, journal markers, or other personal status indicators.

The app listens for UDP messages on port 1738 by default, and AnyBar.app must be running before it can receive commands. Messages can switch the dot among styles such as black, white, filled, and hollow, while the filled and hollow variants adapt when Big Sur changes the menu bar’s appearance with the wallpaper. A quit command closes the indicator, and shell users can control it from Bash or use the available Fish completion.

You can run several AnyBar instances on different ports, select a port with the ANYBAR_PORT environment variable, and use open -na to launch additional instances. Environment variables also set a menu bar title and the dot’s initial color.

AnyBar works with extensions and companion scripts including anybar-el for Emacs, an AnyBar Webpack status plugin, an AnyBar CLI journal, multi-tab iTerm monitoring commands, an IPython/Jupyter extension, and i3pystatus for i3wm. Version 0.2.3 is freeware under the Eclipse Public License and supports Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
