Clicking Get Appexes fills AppexIndexer’s window with well over 400 app extensions installed on a Mac, including extensions built into macOS and those bundled with third-party products. It gives Mac users a practical inventory for examining extensions that would otherwise be difficult to interpret from the extensive, seemingly random output of the pluginkit command-line tool. Unlike that raw output, AppexIndexer groups entries alphabetically by the SDK or NSExtensionPointIdentifier shown first on each line.

Within each group, entries are ordered by display name, generally matching the name shown in System Settings. Each row also shows the extension’s path, allowing the user to inspect its bundle and its Info.plist for further details. When available, the row includes the name and path of the extension’s parent, which often makes third-party extensions recognizable at a glance, while macOS-built extensions are less likely to have one.

The current release is 108,2025.04, and the program runs on macOS 14 Sonoma or later on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. Find/Search is not yet included, but users can save the window contents as RTF or copy selected entries for pasting elsewhere. AppexIndexer is freeware, and its inventory is especially useful when reviewing extensions that may host background processes capable of malicious persistence, although those processes still operate under TCC’s strict access rules for protected services and data.
