Asset Catalog Tinkerer2.9

Open a .car asset catalog and inspect the images inside it, then copy individual assets or export selected items to a folder with Asset Catalog Tinkerer. It gives developers a focused way to examine resources bundled inside applications, commonly found in an app’s Resources directory. The freeware Developer Tools utility runs on macOS on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

It can open any .car file, display its contained images for browsing, and export either chosen images or the entire catalog. Individual assets can also be dragged out directly, which is useful when recovering a particular image for inspection or reuse. A QuickLook plug-in provides previews of asset catalogs before opening them. Homebrew is another way to obtain the program.

Since version 2.2, the app has also been able to read theme store files, which package interface assets rather than conventional catalog contents. Examples include stores in /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemAppearance.bundle and ProKit theme stores inside ProKit.framework, LunaKit.framework, and other folders used by professional applications. Its image-oriented design does not cover some newer asset-catalog features, including colors, and future support for those features is uncertain. The current release is version 2.9.
