Atuin Desktop lets Mac users create and edit runbooks for terminal workflows, keeping repeatable command procedures organized. It also syncs, searches, and backs up shell history with end-to-end encryption, so commands remain available across machines. Search can match command text, working directory, exit code, execution duration, hostname, and other recorded context.

History is encrypted on the client before synchronization, and users can choose Atuin’s hosted service or run the open-source sync server on their own infrastructure. Atuin AI opens inside the terminal when you type ? at an empty prompt, using command output, exit codes, directories, and history to help investigate problems. It can suggest commands, insert or run them with one key, use bash for context, and warn before executing dangerous commands; Atuin AI is free while it is being tested.

The shell integration works with bash, zsh, fish, and more without replacing an existing setup, and the same package provides history features and AI after setup, which takes about two minutes. Built in Rust, Atuin is designed to stay unobtrusive while making history searches faster, making it useful to developers reusing commands, debugging terminal sessions, or moving between computers. The broader Atuin software is available for macOS, Linux, and Windows, while Atuin Desktop 0.2.20 is freeware for MacOS on Apple Silicon (arm64).
