BabelEdit lets developers edit multiple language files in parallel, so they can compare translations and identify missing messages without switching between separate documents. It addresses the problems that appear when a project grows beyond one language, including checking whether every message exists in every locale and determining which translation entries still matter. The editor is designed for Developer Tools workflows and supports Angular with ngx-translate, React with react-intl, and other frameworks that store translations in JSON.

BabelEdit understands the structure of framework-specific files and recognizes placeholders used by the framework and application code. It works with JSON, YAML, PHP, ARB, Vue, Properties, RESX, and XLIFF files, including Laravel translation data, Flutter Application Resource Bundle files, and Java, Groovy, or Grails properties. Its source-code view shows where a translation is used, while word searches can reveal every occurrence that needs checking.

Filters narrow the workspace to particular words or translation IDs, untranslated messages, or approved and unapproved entries. Google Translate, Microsoft Translator, and DeepL can supply suggestions for individual phrases or retrieve translations for an entire language, and the built-in spell checker checks text as it is entered. Messages can be exported for translation agencies or other tools and imported again after external processing.
