Better Shot0.5.8

Capture a Mac screen, camera feed, or screenshot in Better Shot, then turn it into a polished walkthrough or annotated image in the same app. Screen recordings support cursor auto-zoom, on-device captions generated through Apple’s speech framework, and a full editor with a preview, inspector, and timeline.

The video timeline lets you split clips, trim pauses, and add zooms with adjustable focus, strength, and duration. You can select the export format, resolution, and quality, save the result without a watermark, or create a share link. Screenshot editing adds arrows, text, shapes, and numbered markers, along with gradients, adjustable padding, rounded corners, and shadows; finished images can be copied into another app or saved and exported.

It suits walkthroughs, product demonstrations, support instructions, and other work that depends on clear screen or image communication. Better Shot uses Swift and AppKit for a native capture-to-export workflow rather than Electron, a bundled browser, or a web wrapper, with low CPU and battery usage. Cursor movement is sampled 30 times per second for smooth automatic zooms, while fragmented MP4 writing preserves the recording if the app is quit mid-capture; recorded audio stays off servers.

Version 0.5.8 requires macOS 26 Tahoe or later and runs on Apple Silicon arm64 Macs. It is freeware and open source, with no account, subscription, tiers, or trial required.
