About
Biblioteca opens GNOME documentation for reading on a Linux desktop, including when an internet connection is unavailable. It gives developers a local reference for APIs, libraries, and platform guidance without relying on a browser session or printed material. The viewer also includes web browsing, allowing related online documentation to be opened from the same environment.
Tabs let readers keep several documentation pages available at once, while fuzzy search helps locate topics without entering an exact title. Dark mode support makes extended reading more comfortable, and the adaptive interface is designed to work across desktop and mobile-sized displays. GNOME developers, students, and contributors can use it as a focused reference while learning, coding, or checking platform behavior.
Biblioteca began as Workbench’s built-in offline documentation viewer before becoming an independent app maintained by Akshay Warrier and Sonny Piers. The current 1.7 release updates the application to GNOME 49 and adds jsonrpc-glib, alongside updates to libshumate, libspelling, vte, and gom. It is an open-source Linux program licensed under GPLv3, made possible by Flatpak; only the Flathub Biblioteca build is supported. People contributing to its development do so through GitHub and need an account for that participation.
Requires Linux + Flatpak · Architecture: x86_64, aarch64
